What is RU 486/Mifeprex?
Mifeprex has been used by more than half a million women in Europe to end an early pregnancy. Now this early option is available to women in America. Many women report medical abortion as being "private" and "more like a miscarriage" but the method is not for all women.

Mifeprex is a non-invasive, non-surgical option for ending an early pregnancy. It can be taken up to 49 days after the first day of her last menstrual period and is 95-98% effective.

How does it work?
Mifeprex is taken orally to block a hormone needed to maintain a pregnancy. It is followed by another medication called misoprostol.

Mifeprex is provided through our office and it requires 2 visits. At the first visit, you will receive a Medication guide to help you understand how it works, sign a consent form and take the Mifeprex medication.

Two days later, you will take the Misoprostol medication. A follow-up visit approximately 12 days later is very important to be sure that the pregnancy has ended.

Side effects:
Bleeding and cramping are a normal part if the process. You may experience bleeding similar to or greater than a heavy period and it may last 9-16 days. Side effects may include nausea, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue and back pain.
